STUDENT NURSES AT PARKSIDE GALA FOR MARCH OF DIMES MARCH 4 - US Fed News Service, Including US State News

KENOSHA, Wis., Feb. 10 -- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside issued the following news release:

Student nurses at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside host a charity gala to benefit the local March of Dimes Chapter of Wisconsin Friday, March 4, 2011. Sponsored by SNAP, the Student Nurses Association at Parkside, the event begins at 5 p.m. at Roma Lodge, 7130 Spring St., Racine.

'SNAP selected the March of Dimes as this year's gala beneficiary to support their work to improve the health of babies through prevention of birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality which is a major problem in Racine, Kenosha, and Milwaukee,' said SNAP President Julie Hennes. 'The March of Dimes does so much good work that we wanted to contribute in any way we could.'

Hennes sited March of Dimes programs like Grand Roundswhichassistsperinatal health care providers, the prenatal education program for Hispanic women Comenzando Bien, Healthy Babies Healthy Business which enhances the wellness programs at area companies, as well community grants, pregnancy workshops as examples of the charity's important outreach programs.

The SNAP Gala starts at 5 p.m. with cocktails and a buffet dinner beginning at 6 p.m. During the evening, guests will hear from March of Dimes officials, participate in live and silent auctions, and dance until midnight. Evening dress attire is suggested.

Past recipients of funding from this event include the Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation, the southeastern Wisconsin Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Kenosha Community Health Center, and Southeastern Wisconsin Special Olympics.

SNAP is the student organization of the consortial nursing program based at UW-Parkside and administered by UW-Milwaukee.
