UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-PARKSIDE NON-PROFIT PROGRAM ISSUES GRANTS TO 27 AGENCIES - US Fed News Service, Including US State News

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside issued the following news release:

The Nonprofit Development Program in the Center for Community Partnership at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside has awarded grants to 27 area agencies to help them better deliver their services. Issued through the university's Capacity-building Assistance for Nonprofits (CAN) program, the grants will strengthen the governance, management, and infrastructures of the recipient agencies.

The capacity-building funds are part of a three-year Compassion Capital grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Nonprofit Development Program Director Debra Karp said CAN is a resource found nowhere else in Kenosha, Racine, and Walworth counties.

'It provides us with a pool of $200,000 to distribute in sub-awards for capacity-building activities,' Karp stated. 'The CAN program allows us to expand and broaden the training opportunities we can provide, it will help strengthen the pool of potential board members for all nonprofits, and it will encourage and facilitate collaborations among all community nonprofits.'

The agencies receiving CAN grants include ARC of Racine Co., Boy Scouts of S.E. Wisconsin, Bridges Community Center, CareNet Family Services, Catholic Association of Racine, ELCA Urban Outreach Center, Focus on Community, Health Care Network, Hope Council, HOPES Center, Human Capital Development Corp., Kenosha Literacy Council, Living Waters Ministry, Margaret Ann's Place, Next Generation Now, Project New Life, Racine Arts Council, Racine Co. Food Bank, Racine Interfaith Coalition, Racine Symphony Orchestra, Racine Vocational Ministry, Radiant Path, San Juan Diego Middle School, Spanish Center of Kenosha, Volunteer Center of Racine Co., Youth for Christ of S.E. Wisconsin, and the Racine YWCA.

Karp said Kenosha and Racine are among just 37 communities nationwide to benefit from the Compassion Capital grant program. Announcement of the grant recipients was made during a breakfast program May 14 on campus.
